Second Gene

The second gene for SUDEP is another potassium ion channel. A defect in the gene discovered in the laboratory alters signaling in the vagus nerve linking the heart to the brain. Abnormal impulses in the nerve slow and can stop the heartbeat, leading to sudden unexpected death.

The Blue Bird Circle

In 1923, in Houston, Texas, a unique organization of women volunteers was created to promote the well-being of humanity through the betterment of the community. Ninety years later the charitable and benevolent activities of The Blue Bird Circle are pledged to the support of The Blue Bird Circle Clinic for Pediatric Neurology, The Blue Bird Circle Developmental Neurogenetics Laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine, The Blue Bird Circle Clinical Research Center, and The Blue Bird Circle Rett Center.
